Stock thieves target dairy cows near East London

06 Apr 2011
Stock thieves are slaughtering expensive dairy cattle on farms bordering the N6 highway near East London in the Eastern Cape, leaving only unborn calves, stomach contents and the tufts of tails as evidence. The latest farmer to fall victim to stock theft is Terence Salzwedel, who in the past month has lost two pregnant dairy cows and a heifer – an estimated loss of almost R30 000. He said the thieves seem to be well-organised and professional.
