Reserve Bank holds rates as markets, gold and oil tumble

SENTIMENT over prospects for the global economy nosedived yesterday, with emerging markets and metals losing their sparkle, and the rand shedding value for a fourth successive day. The currency tumbled against the dollar on renewed concern over Europe’s debt crisis, which prompted investors to sell riskier emerging-market assets. The rand was the worst performer among more than 20 emerging-market currencies.
