AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION CONDITIONS

04 Dec 2019

Immense gratitude prevailed this morning with the widespread rains that have occurred over the north-eastern parts of the country since last night. Apart from the relief, the past week was unfortunately very dry and minimal summer grain plantings took place. Summer grain plantings in Mpumalanga are largely completed with soybeans still being planted. Drought conditions in the Eastern Free State raise concerns with the optimal planting date that passed and minimal planting has taken place in certain areas. Rain is awaited in the western parts of the country, after which producers will start planting summer crops. The occurrence of rain remains one of the determining factors in the choice and quantity of crops that producers will plant.
