As South Africa imports all its potassium needs, as well as 60% to 70% of its nitrogen requirements,
local prices are subject to the same factors which drive supply and demand in the international fertiliser
industry. Local prices are also influenced by the rand/dollar exchange rate. From November 2012 to
November 2013 the prices of LAN, urea and potassium chloride increased by 1,8%, 2,1% and 0,9%
respectively, while MAP decreased by 3,1% (

).
