Chemical market
According to the production cost figures of Grain SA, the value of agrochemicals used in maize production
during the 2012/2013 production season reached R2,156 billion. The chemical costs for the 2011/2012
production season were R1,563 billion, which indicates an increase of R593 million for the 2012/2013
production season. This can mainly be attributed to the increase in the area planted to maize.
Local availability of chemicals
On 14 August 2013 Grain SA’s Production/Input Working Group met with AVCASA and the following
issues where discussed:
Market trends in the grain industry, production costs for the 2013/2014 production season.
International and local situation in the agrochemical industry.
Prices and availability of agrochemicals.
The future of the quality monitoring project for agrochemicals.
Progress with normal registration.
Registration of chemicals for minor use.
Africa stockpiles programme.
AVCASA Waste Management plan.
Future disposal of empty containers.
Accreditation of ACDASA to CropLife.
Rodents.
Neonicotinoid.
Head and tussel smout.

Volgens die produksiekostesyfers van Graan SA het die waarde van die landbouchemikalieë wat in
die 2012/2013-produksieseisoen vir mielieproduksie gebruik is, R2,156 miljard bereik. Die koste van
chemikalieë vir die 2011/2012-produksieseisoen was R1,563 miljard, wat ‘n styging van R593 miljoen
vir die 2012/2013-produksieseisoen aandui. Dit kan hoofsaaklik toegeskryf word aan die toename in die
oppervlakte wat onder mielies geplant is.
