Grain SA provides grain and oilseeds producers with estimates of diesel price fluctuations for the
coming month. By using this information of Grain SA, producers are able to plan whether or not to
buy diesel at that given point in time. This provides transparency in the diesel market, which makes it
possible for producers to save on production costs. The maize price index and the diesel price index
are shown in
Graph 8
. With the diesel price increasing over the last twelve months and an expected
producer price

for maize for the coming season of R1 831 per ton, the ratio between the diesel price
and the maize price is weakening.
Rebate on diesel
An increase in the general fuel levy (22,5 cents per litre) and in the Road Accident Fund Levy (8 cents
per litre) was proposed by National Treasury for the 2013 budget year. This increase has taken effect on
1 April 2013. Because of the fact that the rebate on diesel consists of 40% of the general fuel levy and
the total Road Accident Fund Levy, the rebate subsequently increased from 158 cents per litre to
175 cents per litre.

Korting op diesel
Die Nasionale Tesourie het vir die 2013-begrotingsjaar ‘n verhoging van die algemene brandstofheffing
(22,5 sent per liter) en die Padongelukkefondsheffing (8 sent per liter) voorgestel. Hierdie verhoging het
op 1 April 2013 in werking getree. As gevolg van die feit dat die korting vir diesel 40% van die algemene
brandstofheffing en die totaal van die Padongelukkefondsheffing uitmaak, het die korting van 158 sent
per liter tot 175 sent per liter gestyg.
