GRAIN PRODUCER AND DEVELOPING GRAIN PRODUCER OF THE YEAR
This was the fourteenth year in which a Grain Producer of the Year was selected and for the twelfth
year a Developing Grain Producer of the Year was also selected. This project by Grain SA is aimed
at recognising producers who manage their businesses to serve as an example and inspiration to
other producers.
The award to the Developing Grain Producer of the Year is a result of the Development Programme
by Grain SA that aims to establish sustainable black commercial producers. Grain SA would like to
acknowledge the contributions to and involvement of the Maize Trust, the Winter Cereal Trust, the
Sorghum Trust and the Oil and Protein Seeds Development Trust (OPOT) in the project.
The function at which these awards are made has grown in status over the past years and is generally
regarded as one of the signal events in agricultural circles. This year’s awards were presented on 11 October
at
the Theatre on the Track
in Midrand. The function was attended by 350 guests, representing role-players
from across the entire agricultural spectrum. Deputy Minister Pieter Mulder and Ms Anette Steyn were
among the politicians who attended the event. This was the ideal opportunity for Grain SA to demonstrate
to representatives from the government the role that Grain SA and producers play to ensure food security.
During the course of the function recognition was given to all grain producers in South Africa and not only
to the finalists involved.
This project and prestigious event would not have been possible without the sponsors concerned. A top
international company that has associated itself with the event for many years is Syngenta. Not only is
Syngenta the main sponsor of the project, but it also sponsors the Grain Producer of the Year awards
and the prizes involved. The co-sponsor of the event is Absa AgriBusiness, which is also the sponsor
of the Developing Grain Producer of the Year category. Grain SA would like to thank these sponsors for
their loyal support and partnership in giving recognition to the grain producers of South Africa.
toekennings is op 11 Oktober by
the Theatre on the Track
in Midrand gedoen.
kategorie is.
