Grain SA is proud to have received an unqualified audit report from PricewaterhouseCoopers once
again. The positive return on investments supported the strategic investment to ensure the sustainability
of income streams. The challenges that accompany exceptional growth were well met by the
establishment of sound corporate governance to ensure the success of various projects.
The strategic aim of expanding the capacity of the Organisation to protect future sources of income
resulted in a negative budget in the short term. Grain SA ended the year with a net deficit, which was
well within the expected five-year budget. During the year, intensive capital expenditure was incurred to
ensure the necessary growth in Grain SA’s annual NAMPO Harvest Day income. Levies remained the
main source of income of Grain SA as a producer organisation. The drought in most parts of the North
West Province had a negative impact on the levy income. The establishment of additional capacity in
the Marketing division ensured that we managed to maintain an income similar to that of the previous
year, in spite of the drought.
One of the main challenges for the year was to establish systems and procedures to ensure that
Grain SA could provide the necessary reassurance that the recapitalisation projects were completed
according to contractual obligations. During the financial year Grain SA handled R178 million as part of
recapitalisation projects, which included 145 developing farmers. Because of the extent of the third-
party funds that are handled, Grain SA had to register as a financial services provider in accordance
with the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act.

Die positiewe opbrengs op beleggings ondersteun die strategiese investering om die volhoubaarheid van
inkomstebronne te verseker. Die uitdagings wat gepaardgaan met buitengewone groei is goed ondervang
deur die daarstelling van goeie korporatiewe beheer om die sukses van verskeie projekte te verseker.
Gegewe die strategiese doel om die kapasiteit in die Organisasie uit te brei asook die investering
om toekomstige inkomstebronne te beskerm, is die resultaat ‘n negatiewe begroting in die kort termyn.
Graan SA sluit af met ‘n netto tekort, wat gemaklik binne die vyfjaar begrote resultate is. Daar is gedurende
die jaar intensiewe kapitale spandering aangegaan om die nodige groei van Graan SA
se jaarlikse NAMPO Oesdag te verseker. As produsente-organisasie bly heffings Graan SA se belangrikste
bron van inkomste. Die droogte in die grootste dele van die Noordwes Provinsie het ‘n negatiewe impak op
die heffingsinkomste gehad. Die daarstelling van addisionele kapasiteit by die Bemarkingsafdeling het
verseker dat ons steeds ‘n soortgelyke inkomste as die vorige jaar kon handhaaf, ten spyte van die droogte.
Een van die grootste uitdagings vir die jaar was om stelsels en prosedures in plek te kry om te verseker
dat Graan SA die nodige gerusstelling kan gee dat die herkapitaliseringsprojekte volgens kontraktuele
verpligtinge nagekom is. Gedurende die finansiële jaar het Graan SA R178 miljoen as deel van
herkapitaliseringsprojekte hanteer, wat 145 ontwikkelende boere insluit. As gevolg van die omvang van
die derdepartyfondse wat hanteer word, moes Graan SA, in lyn met die Wet op Finansiële Dienste, as
‘n finansiële diensteverskaffer registreer.
