SORGHUM

Sorghum experienced a difficult season during the 2021/2022 production season. The hectares planted

declined from 49 200 ha in 2020/2021 to 37 200 ha in 2021/2022 (-24%). In the same period, sorghum

production dropped by 49% from 215 000 tons to 110 700 tons. This can largely be attributed to a poor

yield, which declined by 32% from 4,37 t/ha to 2,98 t/ha.

Graph 5

shows the sorghum area planted, the

production and average yield since the 1995/1996 season.
