Palaeontologists are not the only scientists who make new discoveries, such as the Homo Naledi fossils. Agricultural scientists’ development of

new maize cultivars which are drought and/or insect tolerant in order to help feed the growing world population is a great find in its own right.

October 2015

On 18 September 2015, the Indian

government raised the import duty

on

crude edible oil

from

7,5% to 12,5%

and on

refined edible

oil

from

15% to 20%

. Raising the

import duties aims at lifting do-

mestic oilseed prices, thereby sup-

porting Indian producers and also

improves conditions for the ailing

Indian oilseed crush sector.

South Africa’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, has con-

ceded that Africa’s second largest economy is passing through a dark

phase; calling on credit providers not to take advantage of consumers.

“We are passing through a difficult period economically; its origins

are the impact of the end of the commodity super cycle

and the negative effect this is having on the mining industry,”

Davies told CNBC Africa.
