Nora Cruz Quebral, often referred to as the ‘mother of development
communication’ said, ‘The purpose of development communication
is to advance development. Development requires that a mass
of people with a low rate of literacy and income and the socio-
economic attributes that go with it, first of all be informed about and
motivated to accept and use a sizeable body of hitherto unfamiliar
ideas and skills in very much less time than that process would
normally take.’
6.
Training courses
Skills development in agriculture is an investment in the future. The
courses are specifically tailored for developing farmers and balance
theory with a practical hands-on approach.
7.
Farmer of the Year competition
The idea is to identify role-models who serve to inspire other
farmers – a moment to celebrate learning, development
and growth.
8.
Schools programme
This initiative recognises the potential of youth to make a
significant impact on the agricultural sector IF they can be alerted
to the urgent need for them to participate as future farmers or in
other careers in agriculture. Africa is a young continent with 65%
population below 35 years of age and 10 to 12 million young
people estimated to enter the workforce every year.
9.
Internship programme
To give future young farmers and potential extension officers the
opportunity to work closely with experienced members of the team,
be part of the admin and teaching platforms and attend training
courses run by Grain SA to entrench knowledge and skills in a
meaningful and practical manner.
Farmers and strategic role-players are involved in Grain SA
activities on a number of different platforms as can be seen in the
table below.

Quebral, wat dikwels die moeder van ontwikkelingskommunikasie
genoem word, sê die doel van ontwikkelingskommunikasie is om
ontwikkeling te bevorder. Ontwikkeling vereis dat ’n massa mense met
’n lae geletterdheidskoers en inkomste en die sosio-ekonomiese eien
skappe wat daarmee gepaardgaan eerstens ingelig moet word oor
en gemotiveer moet word om ’n aansienlike hoeveelheid onbekende
idees en vaardighede te aanvaar en te gebruik binne ’n baie korter
tydperk as wat die proses normaalweg sou verg.
6.
Opleidingskursusse
Vaardigheidsontwikkeling in landbou is ’n belegging in die toekoms.
Die kursusse is spesifiek ontwerp vir ontwikkelende boere en balan-
seer teorie en ’n praktiese benadering.
7.
Boer van die Jaar-kompetisie
Die idee is om rolmodelle te identifiseer wat dien om ander boere te
inspireer – ’n oomblik om leer, ontwikkeling en groei te vier.
8.
Skoleprogram
Hierdie inisiatief erken die potensiaal van die jeug om ’n beduidende
impak op die landbousektor te maak AS hulle bewus gemaak kan
word van die dringende behoefte om as toekomstige produsente of in
ander loopbane aan landbou deel te neem. Afrika is ’n jong vasteland
met 65% van sy bevolking jonger as 35 jaar, en 10 tot 12 miljoen jong-
mense wat na raming elke jaar die arbeidsmag betree.

Internskapprogram
Om aan jong boere en potensiële voorligtingsbeamptes die geleent
heid te gee om nóú met ervare lede van die span saam te werk en
deel te wees van die admin en onderrigplatforms, en opleidingskur-
susse by te woon wat deur Graan SA aangebied word om kennis en
vaardighede op ’n betekenisvolle en praktiese manier vas te lê.
Boere en strategiese rolspelers is op ’n aantal verskillende
platforms by Graan SA se aktiwiteite betrokke, soos in die tabel
hieronder gesien kan word.
