beset is. Skaapskeerdemonstrasies en lewendehawe-uitstallings is
saam met wonderlike blomuitstallings en 4x4-demonstrasies aangebied.
Galatoekennings
Hierdie gebeurtenisse,

With the commitment of the agri-businesses as well as all the major
tractor and implement manufacturers, NAMPO Cape showcased the
newest technology in exhibitions of exceptional quality. Non-profit
organisations, including schools and churches, operated the food
and refreshment stations, as per NAMPO tradition, benefiting the local
NPO’s. The popular women’s programme was also taken down south
with food demonstrations, décor, inspiration and many product exhibitions
geared towards the ladies, which included clothing, jewellery, décor- and
hand-made items. NAMPO Cape showcased a large and dedicated
livestock component, with a show ring occupied by the Merino Sheep
breeding society, the Jersey Bull breeding society and the Youth Show.
Sheep shearing demonstrations and livestock exhibitions were presented
together with glorious flower displays and 4x4 demonstrations.
Gala awards
Grain SA celebrated the successes of its grain producers during
two prestigious and jubilant celebratory events, held at NAMPO Park
and in Midrand on 26 September and 12 October 2018 respectively.
These events, attended by a wide variety of stakeholders and emerging
grain producers, offer Grain SA the opportunity to honour the develop-
ment, growth and achievements of its emerging and commercial
grain producers.
Day of Celebration
Consisting of four categories, the Day of Celebration honours
subsistence, smallholder, potential commercial and new era commercial
farmers and their contribution to the country’s food security. The subsist-
ence category honours farmers planting 0 to 10 ha. The smallholder
category honours farmers planting more than 10 ha, but harvesting less
than 250 tons. The potential commercial category, a new category intro-
duced last year, honours farmers with access to more than 100 hectares
of arable land, but currently not able to use all the available land, yet
they are in a position to become 250 ton new era commercial producers.
And lastly, the new era commercial category, honours farmers harvest-
ing commercial yields. Since its inception in 2009, this event has been
a highlight on the Grain SA calendar, and fondly referred to as the
‘Harvest of Farmers’. The 2018 Day of Celebration was testimony to
the investment of the organisation in farmer development over the past
16 years whilst affording the opportunity to celebrate farmer development,
recognise excellence in the field, and above all, acknowledge transfor-
mation in grain production.
Grain Producer of the Year
Celebrating the cream of the crop at its annual gala awards evening,
this event honoured the country’s top grain producers, commemorating
the 19th year of this accolade. It was attended by the Deputy Minister
for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Sifiso Buthelezi, together with
senior governmental officials, representatives of the various agricultural
trusts, organised agriculture as well as captains of industry.
The Grain Producer of the Year awards gives recognition to grain
producers who farm with excellence. In addition, the finalists serve
as excellent role-models to the younger generation of producers
whilst the image of the grain producer is enhanced. The judges were
once again faced with a difficult task as all the finalists proved to be
exceptional producers with diverse management styles. The Grain
Producer of the Year gives recognition to successful grain producers
who manage their businesses with such passion and dedication, so as
to set an example and serve as inspiration to other producers.
