Progress was made with the development of

high throughput phenotyping platform and was

presented at the International Plant Phenotyping

Symposium (IPPS) hosted by the Australian

Plant Phenomics Facility in Adelaide, Australia.

Grain SA’s projects in collaboration with DST

was presented at the first ever BIO Africa

Convention held in Durban.

A surveillance programme, initiated by

Grain SA, to identify the occurrence and

spread of fall armyworm (

Spodoptera

frugiperda

) in South Africa.

The Argentinian CA collaboration project was

renewed for the 2017/2018 season.

A greater urgency emerged to scale out CA

to more producers, much faster, because of

serious environmental threats and the dire

economic situation of many grain producers.

aangebied by die internasionale plantfenotipe

ringsimposium (International Plant Phenotyping

Symposium, IPPS) wat deur die Australian Plant

Phenomics Facility in Adelaide, Australië gehou is.

Graan SA se projekte in samewerking met DWT is

aangebied by die eerste BIO Afrika-konvensie ooit,

kommandowurm (

Spodoptera frugiperda

) in Suid-

Afrika te identifiseer.

Die Argentynse BL-samewerkingsprojek is vir die

2017/2018-seisoen hernu.

As gevolg van ernstige omgewingsbedreigings en die

swak ekonomiese situasie van talle graanprodusente

is ’n groter dringendheid geïdentifiseer om BL baie

vinniger onder meer produsente bekend te stel.

Consortiums and multi-stakeholder

partnerships

Grain SA’s main research priority focus areas are crop im-

provement, crop protection, biosecurity, climate change and

conservation agriculture. Grain SA’s Research and Policy Centre’s

primary objective is to establish research consortia that drive innovation

to enhance the productivity, profitability and sustainability of South

African grain and oilseed producers and benefit the industry and

the wider community. Feedback and progress of the consortia are

provided below.

Crop improvement: Wheat breeding

South Africa’s area planted to wheat decreased at an alarming rate

over the last 30 years, and therefore the Department of Science

and Technology (DST) and Grain SA committed themselves to the

development of a platform to address this challenge as it impacts

Konsortiums en multibelanghebbende

vennootskappe

Graan SA se vernaamste prioriteitsfokusareas vir navorsing is

gewasverbetering, gewasbeskerming, biosekuriteit, klimaats-

Policy Centre
