2018 aangeteken met meer as 82 817 besoekers. ’n Studie onder

uitstallers deur die bemarkingspan spreek van groot positiwiteit

en die grootste kompliment was die professionele bestuur van die

Oesdag. Buitelandse uitstallers se belangstelling in NAMPO om

sodoende die res van Afrika te bereik, duur voort.

’n Vennootskap met die Bredasdorp Park NPC het die weg gebaan vir

NAMPO Kaap

wat vir die eerste keer aangebied is. Dié streekskou is

uitstekend deur die gemeenskap van Bredasdorp en omgewing

ondersteun en 16 245 besoekers het dit bygewoon. Die beplanning vir

aanstaande jaar se NAMPO Kaap is reeds aan die gang.

Die suksesse van graanprodusente is tydens twee prestigegeleent­

hede gevier, naamlik die

Feesdag

en die Graanprodusent van die

Jaar-funksie. Bestaans-, kleinskaalse, potensiële kommersiële en nuwe

era-boere word tydens die Feesdag vir hul bydrae tot voedselsekerheid

vereer. Die

Graanprodusent van die Jaar

-toekennings verleen

erkenning aan die graanprodusente wat met uitnemendheid boer.

Die

Nasie in Gesprek

-platform skep die geleentheid vir openbare

diskoers oor landbou in al sy fasette. Graan SA is ’n vennoot hier­

van en het vanjaar deur die NAMPO Oesdag en NAMPO Kaap

meegewerk dat die dialoog weer kan plaasvind.

Ons

SA Graan/Grain

-tydskrif

presteer steeds goed, ten spyte van

heelwat ander publikasies wat swaar trek in die huidige ekonomiese

toestande. Dié graanvaktydskrif en mondstuk van Graan SA se

redaksiespan het ’n beplanningsessie gehad om sy status as leidende

landboutydskrif te verseker en die digitale strategie te versterk.

Graanakademie

Die gradeplegtigheid vir die 2017-groep van die Graanakademie is in

Julie vanjaar by die

Universiteit van die Vrystaat

aangebied. Die pro-

gram, wat ’n inisiatief van Graan SA in vennootskap met Syngenta is, is

’n konkrete belegging in die landbouleiers van die toekoms. Die Graan-

akademie is in 2018 vir die eerste keer in die

Wes-Kaap

aangebied.

Hoërskool Reitz

Deur middel van befondsing deur die Sasol Trust, is Hoërskool

Reitz tans in die proses om

’n presisieboerdery-landbouleerplan

te implementeer. Graan SA se verteenwoordiger op die Sasol Trust

vorm deel van die stuurkomitee om die projek van die grond te kry.

Strategiese fokusarea: Omgewing

Navorsingskonsortiums

Die onderskeie konsortiums se oogmerk is om innovering te gebruik

om die produktiwiteit, winsgewendheid en volhoubaarheid van graan-

en oliesadeprodusente te verbeter en die bedryf en wyer gemeenskap

tot voordeel te strek.

Die koringtelingsplatform het in Oktober vanjaar ’n voortelingspro-

gram by die

Universiteit Stellenbosch

bekend gestel. Die Minister

van Wetenskap en Tegnologie het die inwyding van dié nuwe era

van koringteling – en die bevordering van die ontwikkeling van meer

volhoubare koringkultivars – bygewoon.

Die Departement van Wetenskap en Tegnologie (DWT) het Graan SA

genooi om tydens die

BIO Afrika-konvensie

al die navorsingsprojek­

te wat in samewerking met hulle gedoen word, uit te stal.

Sedert die stigting van die Sclerotinia-navorsingsnetwerk sal die

2018/2019-seisoen die eerste wees waarin

Sclerotinia-proewe

aangeplant word.

A new record attendance figure was achieved during

NAMPO

Harvest Day

in 2018, with more than 82 817 visitors. A study done

among exhibitors by the marketing team received extremely positive

feedback, and the biggest compliment was about the professional

management of the Harvest Day. Foreign exhibitors’ interest in

NAMPO as a platform for reaching the rest of Africa continues.

A partnership with the Bredasdorp Park NPC paved the way for

NAMPO Cape

, which was presented for the first time. This regional

show received excellent support from the community of Bredasdorp

and the surrounding area and was attended by 16 245 visitors.

Planning for next year’s NAMPO Cape has already started.

The successes of grain producers were celebrated at two prestige

events, namely the

Day of Celebration

and the Grain Producer of the

Year function. Subsistence, smallholder, potential commercial and new

era farmers are honoured for their contribution to food security during

the Day of Celebration. The

Grain Producer of the Year

awards

provide recognition to the grain producers who farm with excellence.

The

Nation in Conversation

platform creates an opportunity for

public discourse on all facets of agriculture. Grain SA is a partner in

this and through the NAMPO Harvest Day and NAMPO Cape this

year helped to present the dialogue again.

Our

SA Graan/Grain

magazine

is still performing well, despite the

fact that a number of other publications are experiencing difficulties

in the current economic conditions. The editorial team of this grain

journal and mouthpiece of Grain SA had a planning session to

ensure its status as the leading agricultural magazine and reinforce

its digital strategy.

Grain Academy

The graduation ceremony for the 2017 group of Grain Academy

graduates was held at the

University of the Free State

in July this

year. The programme, which is an initiative of Grain SA in partnership

with Syngenta, is a concrete investment in the agricultural leaders of

the future. The Grain Academy was presented in the

Western Cape

for

the first time in 2018.

Reitz High School

Through funding by the Sasol Trust, the Reitz High School is currently

implementing

a precision farming agriculture curriculum

. Grain

SA’s representative on the Sasol Trust is a member of the steering

committee to get the project off the ground.

Strategic focus area: Environment

Research consortiums

The aim of the various consortiums is to use innovation to improve

the productivity, profitability and sustainability of grain and oilseeds

producers and benefit the industry and wider community.

In October this year the wheat breeding platform introduced a pre-

breeding programme at the

Stellenbosch University

. The Minister

of Science and Technology attended the inauguration of this new

era in wheat breeding and the promotion of the development of more

sustainable wheat cultivars.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) invited Grain SA

to exhibit all the research projects conducted in collaboration with

them at the

BIO Africa Convention

.

The 2018/2019 season will be the first in which

Sclerotinia trials

will

be planted since the Sclerotinia research network was established.

An early-warning system for

army worms

in SA was initiated by

Grain SA and was employed effectively this year.
