Russia Won't impose limits on grain exports in April |
The Russian government said it sees no justification for imposing restrictions on grain exports in April, rebuffing concerns that the country could introduce duties to combat supply shortages caused by record export levels. Russia's grain exports surged during the first half of the 2011-12 marketing year, with analysts saying authorities were willing to curtail exports over a set figure around 24-25 million metric tons, to ensure domestic supply was met. However, Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov said Russia's exports forecast for the 2011-2012 season had been increased to 27 million tons, with the country's 2012 grain harvest estimate also being revised higher to 93.9 million tons. Zubkov also said that Russia had exported 19.6 million tons of grain as of Feb 3, and that volumes of carry-over stocks fully meet domestic demand, with stable prices on the domestic market. The Ministries of Agriculture and Economic Development will continue to monitor the supply and demand dynamics of grain exports, as well as prices in foreign and domestic markets. |

Dryness cuts hopes for Mexican, S african corn too |
Dry weather, blamed for ravaging Argentine corn, has increased pressure too on crops in South Africa and in Mexico, whose imports of the grain look set to set a record more convincingly than had been thought. US Department of Agriculture foreign staff cut their estimate for the 2011-12 corn harvest in South Africa by more than 400,000 tonnes to 12.07m tonnes, citing "dry weather conditions that persisted during the planting season", so delaying sowings. Argentine 2011-2012 soy crop seen at 46.2m tons |
Argentina's 2011-2012 corn and soybean production prospects have suffered from a lingering drought, but recent showers arrived in the nick of time to prevent a continuing decline in soy prospects, the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange said. The exchange made it's first forecast for both corn and soy production, pegging the corn crop at 22 million metric tons. That's in line with last season's corn production, despite the fact that farmers planted 280 000 more hectares of corn this season. Corn plantings is 95% complete, with the late-planted fields benefiting from the scattered showers seen over the past week, the exchange said. Meanwhile, soybean production is seen at 46.2 million tons, down 2% on the year. "The rain arrived just in time." Planting is 96% complete. Argentina is the world's second-largest corn exporter, leads soyoil and soymeal exports, and ranks in global soybean exports. |
