63 Industry engagement ATLAS AGRISA 2025 CONGRESS The Atlas AgriSA Congress 2025 brought together the entire agricultural value chain to address critical challenges and opportunities facing South African farmers. Dr Godfrey Kgatle represented the Grain SA research team at the ATLAS AgriSA 2025 Congress, themed on using data and collaboration to navigate agriculture’s challenges. With over 100 presentations, discussions centred on climate change, biosecurity, and factual communication. Grain SA highlighted key issues such as unclear quarantine compensation, delayed chemical registrations, the need for NBTs, fragmented data, and climate risks. RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY WORKING GROUP The Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP) is strengthening South Africa’s grain industry through a unified, evidence-based approach that connects research, policy, and on-the-ground implementation. Under the Grain Value Chain Roundtable (GVCRT), the Research and Technology Working Group (RTWG), chaired by Dr Mahlane Godfrey Kgatle, is driving innovation to support farmers, improve productivity, and enhance climate resilience. Through its five-tier research model and alignment with the national Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap, the RTWG is ensuring that research investments lead to measurable gains in sustainability, inclusivity, and food security, positioning South Africa as a continental leader in agricultural innovation and competitiveness.
