‘Police compensate for government failures’ – Agri SA

06 May 2011
“Don’t blame the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the high crime rate,” said Agri SA chairperson for rural safety, Andr? Botha. “All state departments failing to fulfill their mandates must also bear some of the responsibility. “The police are expected to solve problems caused by other, badly functioning state departments. For example, the Department of Education is failing to provide good-quality education and as a result we have many frustrated young people struggling to find decent jobs.”
