SA Graan/Grain advertising

SA Graan/Grain is Grain SA’s official magazine. It is distributed monthly to more than 18 000 readers all over South Africa. The content is directed at producers in South Africa and the articles address their particular requirements. It therefore is an advertising medium for input suppliers of agricultural products and services.

The date of publication, frequency and circulation of a magazine are very important aspects for every advertiser. We take great care to ensure that the correct publication dates and information pertaining to circulation are communicated to advertisers. The focus is on grain farmers in South Africa and articles are presented in a mixed balance of Afrikaans and English. It therefore is bilingual to portray farmers’ language preference.

The layout and content and advertisement load are done according to the most recent trends and are presented in such a way that readers’ requirements are placed foremost. The number of pages per issue varies between 80 and 148 pages. In each issue the focus is on current themes to meet readers’ requirements for a specific season. There are also a few new themes that receive special attention. The magazine is now available online.

Advertisement tariffs are reasonable and we strive to make the process as easy and simple as possible for advertisers. To prevent unnecessary delays please ensure that the printing process and digital specifications are taken into account. Booking of advertisements and special options/positions can be taken up with the advertising manager. Please note the deadlines per issue for the delivery of advertising material.

Research that was done by the Survey Workshop, gives advertisers a better idea of how readers and advertisers perceive SA Graan/Grain. More research information – like the estimated livestock per province, the percentage contribution of the input industries per province and the provincial division of grain cultivation over the previous ten years – can render further support in your decision to advertise in SA Graan/Grain. It presents advertisers with a better idea of the contribution made by each province compared to the total figure or area for South Africa.

Advertisers should please satisfy themselves as to the general conditions for advertising in SA Graan/Grain. The SA Graan/Grain team wants to ensure that your product or service receives maximum exposure and that you experience our service positively. You are therefore welcome to contact us if we can support you with anything in this regard.

Advertising in SA Graan/Grain

Date of publication, frequency and circulation

  • SA Graan/Grain is published monthly.
  • We take extra care to ensure that the magazine is posted during the first week of the month. The date is strictly adhered to and simplifies planning in general.
  • Current circulation varies between 18 000 and 18 500. More copies are printed for the March issue (for Grain SA’s congress) and for the April issue (with its focus on NAMPO Harvest Day). On the map the distribution per province (given as percentages) can be seen.
  • SA Graan/Grain’s address list is divided into postal codes and data regarding the number of producers in a specific area is therefore always available.
  • The address list is updated and adapted monthly.
  • Circulation is direct and therefore guaranteed.

SA Graan/Grain is bilingual

SA Graan/Grain is bilingual and articles and advertisements are presented in Afrikaans and English.

Content and layout

  • The general number of pages varies between 80, 96 and 148 pages per issue.
  • A modern typographic layout style – which emphasises the dynamic character of this agricultural magazine – is used. Legibility and visual focus points are therefore emphasised all the time.
  • Our readers respond positively to features like the main article, SA Graan Standpunt, on pages 4 and 5, E-posse aan Grootneef, as well as the vehicle and the creativity features which are placed at the back of the magazine.
  • SA Graan/Grain is divided into specific editorial sections, e. g. Graan SA Fokus (topics to address producers’ requirements for a specific month), relevant topics and features.
  • Advertisers are given the opportunity to present their products and services to the market by means of editorial articles and advertisements.

Advertisement load (advertisements vs editorial pages)

SA Graan/Grain’s general policy is to limit the advertisement load to ±35%. Advertisements are – if possible – never placed facing each other.

Focus on

  • Research showed that the loose insert, as used by the media in general, doesn’t have appeal anymore.
  • SA Graan/Grain therefore presents the information regarding a specific subject (e.g. seed) to the readers in a special part of the magazine, which is known as Focus on…. The issues will also be within a specific season to make it all the more relevant.

Focus on… planning for the year:

  • January − SA Grain Guide
  • February – General and winter grain
  • March – Seed and animal health
  • April – Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day
  • May − Money matters and financial services
  • June – Feedback on NAMPO and value adding
  • July – Fertiliser
  • August – Tractors and implements
  • September – Integrated pest control
  • October – Livestock
  • November – Natural resources and energy
  • December – General
