Uncertainty as pumps run dry in fuel strike

AFTER yesterday’s announcement of the end of the metal workers’ strike, attention will be on the chemical sector’s deadlock, which has led to petrol shortages that could cause serious harm to SA’s image and economy. The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) accepted an above-inflation deal that ended a two-week strike in the metal and engineering sector. The lowest- paid workers would get a 10% hike while better-paid workers, such as artisans, would receive 8% this year. More than 200000 workers will return to work today .
