South Africa growing less competitive

29 Aug 2011
South Africa has slipped further down the ranks in global competitiveness. The latest competitiveness report by the Swiss International Institute for Management Development (IMD), ranks it 52nd out of 59 counties. South Africa is the only African country included in this report. Last year it was placed 44th of 58 countries and in 2009 it ranked 48th of 57 countries. Earlier this year, the Africa Competitiveness Report 2011, compiled by the World Economic Forum, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank, noted that South Africa’s competitiveness had declined from 45th out of 133 countries in 2009/10 to 54th out of 139 countries in 2010/11.
