Maize production increases

BLOEMFONTEIN – Grain producers in the Free State are projecting a bumper harvest despite the poor start to the rain season. Maize producers hope to increase the area under maize from 990 000 hectares to 1 110 000 hectares, although the Crop Estimates Committee in October expressed disquiet about the lack of rains.
