Ethanol keeps US maize supply and demand in balance

18 Mar 2011
The American maize industry has increased its national yield by some 2,5% over the past 35 years, but the dramatic growth in ethanol production has kept the supply and demand chain in balance. This is according to US National Corn Growers Association CEO Rick Tolman, who made an address at the recent Grain SA Congress in Bothaville. “We import about 60% of our oil demand and are greatly concerned about our dependence on foreign oil, especially from countries that do not like us,” he said. “The aim is to produce 50 billion gallons of ethanol by 2015.”
